J Street Connects

Aside from the issue of the current tendency in Israel’s government to reject pro-Israel groups who are critical of some of Israel’s policies (“For the Love of Israel,” March 25), an additional important point is made in this report, namely, that Israel “remains a vital connection point to Jewish life for many younger Jews” in the U.S.

In fact, J Street has, in the three years since its founding, revitalized that “connection point” by providing a home and outlet for many young American Jews who have felt alienated by many traditional Jewish organizations’ unconditional support of some Israeli policies, especially concerning the settlements. There are more than 50 J Street U chapters on American college and university campuses, a testament to the need among many young American Jews to support Israel’s existence as a democratic Jewish state in a way that is consonant with their values.
