(JTA) — Israeli police quelled stone-throwing on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount.
Police entered the compound, known to Muslims as the Haram al-Sharif, on Friday after stone-throwers targeted Israeli troops who secure the area’s margins.
The police used tear gas to subdue the rioters and arrested three people, Israeli media reported, quoting police spokesmen; no one was injured.
Stone-throwers have in the past targeted Jewish worshippers at the Western Wall, directly bellow the compound.
It was not clear what prompted the rioting, but a number of Palestinian groups have called for a third intifada.
