Last night, The Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen aired and we were finally privy to all of the far too easy jokes lobbed at the former star of Two and a Half Men. (I no longer have any respect for a person who makes a “winning” joke.)
Yet some still were still original and surprising enough to make me chuckle. Here are a couple of the evening’s better jokes:
“You’re just like Bruce Willis — you were big in the 80s and now your old slot is being filled by Ashton Kutcher.” — Amy Schumer
“If you’re winning, this mustnot be a child custody hearing. The only time your kids get to see you is in reruns — don’t you want to live to see their first 12 steps?” — Jeffrey Ross
Okay, that last one had a “winning” reference but the payoff is the reference to his kids’ first 12 steps. Brilliant.
It is perhaps a little out of line to go after his kids like that but not any more uncalled for than an evening spent roasting/feting a domestic abuser. (One of his ex-wives, Brooke Mueller, was in the audience. Stockholm Syndrome much?)
