JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel arrested senior Hamas leader Hassan Yousef just two months after releasing him from prison.
Yousef and one of his sons were arrested Tuesday morning at their home in the West Bank. Reports did not say why they were arrested.
Yousef, a Hamas founder, recently completed a six-year prison sentence on terrorism-related charges. He was one of the Palestinian leaders who greeted the Palestinian prisoners released in the Gilad Shalit deal as they crossed from Israeli custody into the West Bank.
Another son, Mosab Hassan Yousef, became an informant for Israel’s Mossad during the second Intifada and wrote a book about his experiences called "Son of Hamas."
