JERUSALEM (JTA) — A teenage girl told an Israeli newspaper that she was attacked by yeshiva students in a central Israeli town because she looked like a lesbian.
The girl, 17, identified by the daily newspaper Yediot Achronot simply as M., said she was walking in the central Israeli city of Ganey Tikvah when she was mobbed by young yeshiva students and attacked with rocks and nasty words. She reportedly has very short hair.
M. and her mother filed a complaint with police, according to the newspaper.
She said she will not change her daily routine in the wake of the attack.
Discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is illegal in Israel.
