WASHINGTON (JTA) — The two top House Republican leaders will address the Republican Jewish Coalition national leadership meeting.
The RJC announced this week that it had confirmed attendance by U.S. Reps. John Boehner (R-Ohio), the House of Representatives speaker, and Eric Cantor (R-Va.), the majority leader, for the meeting April 18-21 in Las Vegas.
Also scheduled to deliver addresses are U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), a leader of the party’s conservative wing; New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, a rising star noted for her appeal to Hispanics and women — constituencies to which the Republican leadership hopes to appeal ahead of coming elections; and Rep. Ed Royce (R-Calif.), the newly installed chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
The Republican leadership is grappling with how best to recast its image in the wake of its presidential defeat last November, as well as losses in Congress.
The RJC meeting will take place at the Venetian, a hotel-casino owned by Sheldon Adelson, a major benefactor of the RJC and of GOP candidates.
