JERUSALEM (JTA) — Lebanon said it would file a complaint with the United Nations in the wake of continued overflights by Israeli military aircraft.

The Israeli Air Force has made several overflights of Lebanon, flying low over Beirut and areas near the border with Syria, according to Lebanese news reports.

“President Michel Suleiman tasked Foreign Minister Adnan Mansur with filing an urgent complaint to the United Nations about Israel’s persistent airspace violations, including over all of Lebanon this morning, including the capital Beirut,” according to a statement issued Sunday from the Lebanese president’s office.

In recent months, Israeli military aircraft have repeatedly violated Lebanon’s airspace, according to reports. The overflights have coincided with increased activity in Syria’s two-year civil war on the Syrian border with Israel.

In May, the U.N. peacekeeping force in Lebanon, UNIFIL, complained to the United Nations about the flights.
