(JTA) — Israel confirmed that it is holding a Palestinian man who disappeared in the Sinai Peninsula for “security crimes.”
Wael Abu Reda had disappeared while vacationing with his wife last month after going to meet someone in the Sinai, according to The Associated Press. Eight days later, his brother received a call from Israel informing him that Abu Reda was in prison there.
Reda’s wife blamed Egypt for allowing him to be captured and said her husband “does not belong to any faction, neither political nor military. Egypt holds all of the responsibility,” according to the AP.
Due to a gag order on the case in Israel, it is unclear how Israel captured Reda or brought him to Israel.
