With so many Jewish leaders raising their voices now in favor of obtaining full transparency in regard to the Claims Conference, after its recent audit, all numbers coming from the organization must be checked and publicized. (“Overhaul Urged For Claims Conference,” July 12) We owe this action to the memory of 6 million Jews who perished in the Holocaust, and also to save from looters the remaining restitution assets for the Holocaust survivors.
Full transparency means a complete accounting for the last 10 years, year by year, of all restitution assets, including the Swiss Banks money and proceeds from the sale of properties and the works of art, without mixing it with resources provided by the German Finance Ministry. Would it be too much to ask for one independent audit in 60 years?
