JERUSALEM (JTA) — A Kassam rocket fired from Gaza exploded in southern Israel hours after the resumption of Israeli-Palestinian peace talks in Washington.

The rocket fired Tuesday morning landed in an open area after Code Red warning sirens sounded in several southern Israeli communities. No damage or injuries were reported.

Peace talks in Washington were launched Monday night at a dinner marking the end of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan. The talks will continue on Tuesday afternoon in Washington and are scheduled to last nine months.

Two rockets were fired from Gaza into southern Israel last week, according to reports.
