JERUSALEM (JTA) — Four rockets were fired at northern Israel, causing damage to homes and cars.
Two of the rockets fired Thursday afternoon landed in the residential areas of northern Israeli cities. In Nahariya, seven houses and three cars were damaged; several homes and cars were damaged in Acre as well.
At least one rocket was intercepted by an Iron Dome anti-missile battery deployed in the area, according to the Israel Defense Forces.
The long-range Katyusha rockets were fired from a Palestinian refugee camp inside Lebanon, Lebanese media reported, according to The Times of Israel.
“The rockets were launched by the Global Jihad terror organization,” said Brig.-Gen. Yoav Mordechai, an IDF spokesman. “An Iron Dome battery was pre-positioned in northern Israel earlier this month following situation assessments. The IDF is closely following all the developments in the region.”
Color Red alerts warning of incoming rockets were sounded in several northern Israeli cities. Residents of northern Israel were advised to stay near bomb shelters.
“This reinforces the threat faced by the civilians of Israel on all fronts,” Lt.-Col. Peter Lerner, the IDF spokesman to the international media, said in a statement. “Such an act of aggression is a clear attempt to target and terrorize the civilian communities of northern Israel, a situation that would not be tolerated anywhere else in the world.”
