JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continued to press world leaders on the danger posed by a nuclear Iran.
Meeting on Monday with Meng Jianzhu, a member of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Political Bureau, Netanyahu told Jianzhu that the pressure on Iran must not be relaxed.
Netanyahu also said Iran must not be allowed to retain centrifuges and a heavy water reactor, which are used to produce nuclear weapons, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Also Monday, meeting reporters with Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski ahead of a private lunch meeting, Netanyahu said that “Poland and Israel recognize a tyrannical regime when they see one. And the tyrants of Tehran should not have centrifuges or plutonium to build nuclear weapons.”
The Israeli leader warned that the West should not allow Iran to keep most or all of its nuclear weapons capability in exchange for reducing sanctions.
“There’s a debate in the West today,” he said. “People are saying what is the true face of the Iranian regime because they have obviously changed their style. They speak now in English and they smile.
“Yeah, they smile in the talks in Europe, but that regime, which is controlled by [Supreme Leader Ali] Khamenei, has tens of thousands of people on the streets of Tehran today chanting ‘death to America,’ celebrating the seizure of the U.S. Embassy in 1979, 34 years ago.”
Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein called on Komorowski to reject laws that would prohibit kosher slaughter and male ritual circumcision.
“It is important for Jews to feel wanted and not rejected by European countries,” Edelstein told Komorowski, according to The Jerusalem Post.
Slaughter without prior stunning, which is not permitted in kosher slaughter, was made illegal in Poland as of January.
