JERUSALEM (JTA) — The Israel Defense Forces and U.S. military are participating in a bilateral training exercise.

The exercise was planned, the IDF said in a statement released Sunday. A contingent of U.S. Marines and U.S. Navy sailors are participating, according to the IDF.

The statement did not say where or when the exercise was being held.

“As with other bilateral exercises conducted with the IDF, this exercise is a routine training exercise and is not associated with or in response to any specific real world events,” the statement said.

The purpose of the exercise, according to the IDF, is to “improve collaboration and interoperability, understanding and cooperation between the IDF and U.S. Forces.”
