JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel Police have opened an investigation into the severe beating of two Palestinian young men in a Jewish neighborhood of eastern Jerusalem.
The two Palestinian men, both 20-year-old residents of the Bet Hanina neighborhood in eastern Jerusalem, told police they were beaten late Friday night near Neve Yaakov by a group of Jewish youths. The attack occurred soon after two Jewish teens spoke briefly with the men and ascertained that they were Arabs, according to reports.
The men said the mob used sticks and iron bars to beat them, according to reports. The men reportedly lost consciousness during the attack.
The men were taken in private cars to Hadassah Medical Center in Ein Kerem, but later asked to be transferred to a Palestinian hospital in eastern Jerusalem, the Jerusalem Post reported, citing Israel Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld.
Police took their testimony at Hadassah. No arrests have been made.
