Regarding last week’s Editorial, “A Rabbi’s Low Blow”: First, I wish to defend The Jewish Week from the allegations that it is “anti-Orthodox.” While I think there may have been some truth to that accusation when I first started reading the paper years ago, it seems to me that the editor has made a strong attempt to be fair. Anyone comparing the articles in JW to the Forward, for example, would see the difference. The latter seems to exist only to promulgate hatred against anything and anyone Orthodox.
That said, this editorial is embarrassing, not for its attitude, but for its incompetence. It’s quite clear that Rabbi Pruzansky’s comment was making an analogy between what he felt was the JW painting a picture of guilt by association based on his being a member of the same committee as Rabbi Freundel and a theoretical guilt by association between the JW and a Nazi publication simply because both deal with Jews. Rabbi Pruzansky did not actually compare the JW to a Nazi publication, and shame on the editor for suggesting that he did.
