JERUSALEM (JTA) — A Knesset committee unanimously approved a bill to dissolve the Knesset and set March 17 as the date for new elections.
The House Committee advanced the bill on Monday morning to the full Knesset, where lawmakers were expected to debate and vote on the measure’s second and third readings. It is expected to pass.
Rumors surfaced Sunday evening that Netanyahu was still working to form a new coalition government — one that would likely include the haredi Orthodox parties, which Likud partner Yisrael Beiteinu rejects. The Likud Party, which Netanyahu heads, denied the reports.
