Synagogue Dues

The article about voluntary synagogue dues is generally good. (“Synagogue Dues, And Don’ts” (April 10). However, it
seems to focus on dues being expensive.

This overlooks one major reason why
young single adults are not interested in paying dues: Value for price. Dues
would not be perceived as expensive if we got something of equivalent value
in return. Unfortunately, we do not. Ninety percent of synagogue programs focus on
families with young children or seniors. Perhaps a la carte admission fees
would be a possible alternative for some congregations.
