Wouldn’t the Birthright experience be much more meaningful for its participants if they had stronger Jewish backgrounds before their trip, during their high school years? (“What’s Next After Birthright Next?” Editor’s column, May 22)
And if they did so, wouldn’t they be more at home with Friday night dinners and other kinds of Jewish follow-up programming for alumni — without feeling threatened?
The Jewish community must find a way to bolster positive Jewish experiences and Jewish learning programs for Jewish high students during the identity-formative high school adolescent years.
