WASHINGTON (JTA) — Jewish-Americans are much likelier than non-Jews to back the Iran nuclear deal, according to a new poll.
The Los Angeles Jewish Journal poll published Thursday shows 49 percent of Jewish-Americans support the deal and 31 percent oppose it. Among all Americans, 28 percent back the agreement and 24 percent oppose it.
Similarly, 53 percent of Jewish-American respondents want Congress to allow the deal, while 35 percent said the lawmakers should stop it. Among all Americans, the numbers are 41 percent and 38 percent, respectively.
Congress has two months to consider whether to exercise its power to disapprove of the sanctions relief for nuclear restrictions deal reached July 14 between Iran and the major powers led by the United States.
The poll by SSRS was conducted by phone July 16-20 and canvassed 505 non-Jews and 501 Jews. SSRS did not give a margin of error.
