To the extent that all Jews are responsible for each other, Shulem Deen’s Opinion piece, “Chasidic Schools Ensure Ignorance And Poverty” (Sept. 18) on the tragedy of Jewish youth failing to receive any meaningful secular education is more than just important. It is a call to action.
Sadly, until the money that supports their horrible educational systems stops, the likelihood of change is remote. And this problem may be one where meaningful change can only come from inside the chasidic community. But Deen’s writing about the problem is hopefully a step in the right direction.
