West Bank explosion injures Israeli soldier

The victim suffered a head injury but was fully conscious and taken to a Jerusalem hospital; no cause for the explosion was given.

(JTA) — An Israeli army officer was injured in an explosion Tuesday night at a West Bank checkpoint north of Jerusalem.

The Israel Defense Forces has not yet said what caused the explosion outside the Palestinian village of Hizme, according to the Times of Israel.

The victim suffered a head injury but is fully conscious, the Times of Israel reported, citing the United Hatzalah ambulance service. He was taken to Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem.

Police are investigating the incident and have closed the Route 437 highway in both directions as a result.
