(JTA) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was taken to a Jerusalem hospital with a high fever and a cough but released hours later.
Netanyahu, 68, has a virus that attacked his upper respiratory tract, according to a statement from his office, and was sent home from Hadassah Medical Center with medication and told to rest. He had been taken to the hospital by car on Tuesday evening.
Netanyahu wrote on Twitter that he was on his way home and was “confident that a little rest and hot soup would resolve the issues.”
The Israeli leader was ill two weeks ago and had not rested sufficiently, leading to a worsening in his condition, his personal physician, Dr. Tzvi Berkowitz, said in an earlier statement.
At the hospital, Netanyahu underwent a series of tests. Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman said all the tests came up negative.
