(JTA) — President Donald Trump told French President Emmanuel Macron that the U.S. is leaving the Iran nuclear deal, The New York Times has reported.

Trump will officially announce his decision at 2 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday, but the Times reported that Trump phoned Macron this morning.

The Times report claims that Trump will reinstate all of the sanctions on Iran that the U.S. had waived under the deal and impose new sanctions on top of them. An unidentified source added that Trump had insisted the deal impose strict limits on Iran’s nuclear fuel production through 2030, but that provision did not make it through the latest round of negotiations to keep the deal in place.

Trump and Macron met recently in Washington and established a friendly rapport, but the French leader defended the Iran deal — an agreement Trump has long despised — in a rousing speech to a joint session of Congress.
