We Need Better Gun Laws

Yet again there’s been a mass shooting in our country, and just like in Orlando, in Charleston and in countless other places, this was a hate crime (“Debate On Guns In Synagogues As Squirrel Hill Limps Toward Healing,” Nov. 2). How many times does this have to happen before we accept that hate armed with a gun is deadly?

Jeffrey Myers, a rabbi from the Tree of Life synagogue, had written about gun violence even before last week’s terrible shooting, saying, “We deserve better.” He’s right, we do deserve better — we should all be free to live and worship without fear of gun violence.

We deserve better gun laws. And we deserve better leaders, legislators who will stand up for the safety of our communities and address this epidemic of gun violence with common sense solutions. This latest mass shooting must serve as a reminder that we cannot allow this to become the new normal. In every election, please make sure to vote for candidates who will pledge to enact sensible gun legislation. It’s up to us to stop this senseless gun violence.
