The fact that George Soros is a brilliant investor is incontrovertible (“George Soros As Scapegoat,” Editorial, Dec. 14).
However, his philanthropy and mission in using his wealth is to encourage and foster democracy by supporting its institutions, creating educational opportunities to learn and practice the skills of negotiation, creative thinking, collaborative problem-solving and peacemaking in the programs and schools he developed. He is consistent in this, not to subvert but to enable everyone to participate.
In my mind he is the epitome of the ideal Jew seeking to support the creation of the means to enable people to heal and repair the world. If his desire to prevent authoritarian government from dominating the landscape is a “leftist” fault, consider the alternative.
