The Jewish Agency for Israel is running training sessions for prospective Israeli counselors — and the American summer camps that will welcome them — to help both sides prepare for a summer in the shadow of Oct. 7.
“We call on you to honor your stated commitments to creating a welcoming environment in which all lives are respected by dropping any celebration of Israel from planned programming,” a group of parents wrote in a letter to their children’s camp.
Over the past decade, a community of roughly 1,000 Jews has materialized in Porto, thanks to a law that since 2015 has allowed the return of people whose ancestors were expelled during the Portuguese Inquisition.
