Israel on strike

Israel’s public sector went on strike. Government offices, airports, sea ports
and other state-run services suspended operations Wednesday morning after
11th-hour talks between the Histadrut labor federation and the Treasury broke
down. The strike at first threatened to disrupt travel to and from Ben-Gurion
Airport, but as negotiations progressed throughout the day airport officials
reported that most flights were landing and taking off on schedule. The
Histadrut is demanding compensation for thousands of municipal workers who have
gone unpaid for months. With the Treasury hinting it could yield, there were
hopes that the strike could be over by Thursday morning.
