Ehud Olmert voiced faith in international diplomatic efforts
to prevent Iran from attaining nuclear weapons. “The Iranian issue is being
attended to by the whole world with a surprising and unprecedented
forcefulness,” Israel’s prime minister told Army Radio on
Sunday, referring to recent U.N. Security Council resolutions.
“These sanctions have a much bigger influence that is seen in a shallow
perspective. I think we can reach a situation that will prevent Iran from
becoming nuclear.” Israel has hinted it could resort to military force
against Iran if it deems Western diplomatic pressure a dead end. But many
analysts believe that Israel lacks the means to take on the Iranian nuclear
facilities alone.
