ORT America is calling on its members to urge President Bush not to cut the education budget for 2008.
In a statement last Friday, the U.S. branch of ORT, a Jewish
organization dedicated to education, pledged to stand by “its founding
principles of providing and enhancing quality education.”
Bush has promised to veto an appropriations bill that in the
House draft would increase total allocations for the Department of Education by
$4.2 billion, or 7.4 percent above 2007 levels.
The budget calls for raising the maximum Pell grant
without eliminating or reducing other student financial assistance programs,
increasing the funding for certain schools under the No Child Left Behind Act and adding funds for special education.
