A Jewish leader called for Germany to ban a neo-Nazi party.Dieter Graumann, vice president of the Central Council of Jews in
Germany, in comments published Saturday in a Frankfurt newspaper, said “political leaders must resume the
banning procedure” of the far-right National Democratic Party. He said a ban would prevent the party, which is represented in
two regional parliaments, from using the millions of dollars it
receives in campaign donations “to propagate hate.” Talk about banning the party has been
recurring for years in Germany. The last attempt was stopped by the
German Constitutional Court in 2003.On Saturday, a demonstration by the National Democratic Party in Frankfurt authorized by local officials had nearly 600 participants. A counter-rally had an estimated 3,500 demonstrators.
