Syria filed a complaint with the United Nations over Israel’s apparent violation of its airspace.
Bashar al-Jaafari, Syria’s U.N. ambassador, said Damascus sent letters of complaint about Israeli “aggression” in letters to the secretary-general and the president of the Security Council, according to The Associated Press. The letters called last week’s flyover of Syria by Israeli jets, which Damascus reported and Jerusalem neither confirmed nor denied, a violation of the 1974 cease-fire agreement between the two countries following the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
“Continuing to disregard denunciation of this act could result in consequences that no one knows its limits,” al-Jaafari said, according to the report. “Israel is seeking military escalation. We are exerting efforts so that we don’t fall into this trap.”
