Israeli security forces wrapped up a major West Bank counter-terrorist sweep.

Troops withdrew from Nablus early Friday after an almost week-long search for terrorists in one of its slum districts.

Military sources said that 49 Palestinians had been detained, including a local Hamas leader and a cell from the Islamist group that was suspected of planning a suicide bombing in central Israel.

An Israeli paratrooper was killed in a Nablus clash earlier this week. A Palestinian gunman also died in the incident.
