Palestinians seek $5.5 billion from donors

France will host a donors’ conference for the Abbas government.

Up to 90 countries and organizations have been invited to attend the Paris meeting, scheduled for Dec. 17.

P.A.. President Mahmoud Abbas is asking the donors for $5.5 billion in aid through 2010 to provide financial and political support for the Palestinian Authority while talks with Israel to create a Palestinian state are under way.

Invitees to the donors’ meeting include the Annapolis peace conference attendees, the Arab League, European Union member states and major donors to the United Nations, as well as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
