Immigration to Israel from the United States, Canada, and Britain is up, though total aliyah is down.
In 2007, Nefesh B’Nefesh, an organization that helps facilitate aliyah from those countries, helped bring 3,000 North American Jews to Israel – about 86 percent of the total number of immigrants that have come from there so far this past year. Fifty-two percent of the immigrants who came from Britain came through Nefesh B’Nefesh.
Total aliyah is expected to have dropped by 9.3 percent in 2007, according to figures from the Israeli Absorption Ministry.
There has been a steady decline in immigration over the past few years.
Established in 2002, Nefesh B’Nefesh helps walk immigrants from North America and Britain through the transition to Israel, from the planning stages of their immigration to helping them find jobs and housing once they arrive.
