Hamas appeared to have suspended its rocket fire.
Citing security sources, Israel’s Channel 2 television reported Monday that Hamas apparently instructed its rocket crews in the Gaza Strip to stop firing across the border.
The lull followed a spate of salvoes against Ashkelon and Sderot by Hamas and allied Palestinian terrorist groups earlier in the day, apparently in a bid to show defiance after Israeli forces ended a northern Gaza offensive.
Channel 2 noted that after the reported cease-fire by Hamas, Israel’s Air Force struck terrorist targets in north Gaza, killing at least one Palestinian. Should the ruling Islamist faction decide not to retaliate, it would signal a desire to restore quiet in and around Gaza for the near future.
