Several Palestinian terrorist groups claimed the Israeli security minister was the target of a sniper attack.

Matti Gil, a top aide to Israel’s minister of internal security, Avi Dichter, was moderately wounded in the attack Friday on the Gaza Strip border, where Dichter was leading a group of Canadian Jews.

Officials of Hamas, the terrorist organization in control in Gaza, said they had advance knowledge of Dichter’s visit and prepared for the attack once they saw armored Israeli vehicles gather nearby. A host of other terrorist groups also claimed responsibility. Israeli troops returned fire and later raided the area.

Israeli leaders take overseas visitors to the area bordering Israel and Gaza to explain the risks faced by nearby residents.

Separately, Palestinian terrorists fired on kibbutz volunteers working the fields of Ein HaShlosha. One was lightly injured.
