Clinton as a surprise guest

Presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton made an unexpected appearance at a Philadelphia Jewish event. The Democratic senator from New York on Thursday offered brief greetings and congratulations to the Jewish community at a Jewish federation-sponsored dinner prior to a Philadelphia Orchestra concert celebrating Israel’s 60th birthday.

Clinton, who enjoys the support of many federation lay leaders, did not make any political remarks. Her campaign has been engaged in extensive outreach to the Jewish community ahead of the April 22 Pennsylvania primary, as has her rival, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama. The outcome of the Pennsylvania primary could determine whether Clinton stays in the race.
