An Australian court will decide whether to extradite an alleged Nazi war criminal.

The Perth Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday set aside three days starting Aug. 18 to determine whether Charles (Karoly) Zentai, 86, should be sent back to his native Hungary for allegedly torturing and murdering Peter Balazs, an 18-year-old Jew, during World War II.

Zentai did not appear in court Monday because he was at a clinic for stroke sufferers, his defense team said.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center, which began the pursuit of Zentai in 2005, ranks him No. 7 on its list of most wanted suspected Nazis.

Last month Zentai lost an appeal in the nation’s highest court.

Australia has never extradited a Nazi war criminal.
