Israeli police will investigate the publication of the note Barack Obama placed in the Western Wall.
Deputy State Prosecutor Shai Nitzan ordered the probe on Thursday.
The prayer note written by the Democratic Party’s nominee for president was removed from a crack in the Western Wall during his July visit to Israel and published in the daily Ma’ariv.
The yeshiva student who removed Obama’s note later apologized and put it back.
A complaint filed with the State Prosecutor’s office said the incident violated Obama’s right to privacy and laws protecting religious sites. It said that worshipers at the Western Wall may now fear that their privacy could be violated.
