JERUSALEM (JTA) — Kassam rockets continue to hit southern Israel as Israeli troops thwarted an attack on the Gaza border.

A Kassam rocket fired from Gaza Monday afternoon landed near a kibbutz in the Negev. On Monday morning, a Kassam landed near Sderot.

Early Monday morning, Israeli forces crossed into Gaza and exchanged fire with two Palestinians who were planting explosives near the fence between Israel and Gaza. An Israel Air Force helicopter attacked a suspicious car near the incident.

The Islamic Jihad said on its Web site that the attack was planned to kidnap soldiers, according to the Jerusalem Post.
