JERUSALEM (JTA) — A Canadian-born Israeli soldier was killed during an operation near the West Bank city of Ramallah.
Sgt. Noam Adin Rechter-Levi, 21, was killed early Thursday morning in Bir Zeit. During the operation, Palestinians rioted and attacked the troops. A gun was fired, killing Levi, according to the Israel Defense Forces.
Reports later said Rechter-Levi’s gun discharged while he was scuffling with a Palestinian.
Rechter-Levi was born in Montreal, Canada and immigrated to Israel with his family when he was 8.
Israeli security forces arrested several wanted Palestinians in the West Bank overnight.
