JERUSALEM (JTA) — Rabbis and kabbalists prayed during a special flight over Israel whose purpose was to contain the swine flu pandemic.

The 50 participants on Monday flew in an Arkia Airlines plane that took off from Ben Gurion International Airport. The rabbis and kabbalists blew a shofar seven times and recited prayers for abolishing illnesses, Ynet reported.

Reportedly it was was the third time since the establishment of the state that prayers have been held on planes circling the country, according to Ynet. The first time was during the Persian Gulf War in 1991, and the second was in 1996 following a wave of terror attacks.
