JERUSALEM (JTA) — A terrorist group with ties to al-Qaida claimed responsibility for firing rockets into northern Israel.
The Ziad al-Jarrah division of the Abdullah Azzam Brigades on Monday said it launched the Katyusha rockets that struck northern Israel on Sept. 11. Israel fired shells in retaliation. No one was injured in the attack or the response.
"Your brothers fired two Katyusha rockets from south Lebanon which landed in the Naharia settlement in the north of occupied Palestine," read a message posted on extreme Islamist Web sites Monday.
The message said Israel’s blockade of Gaza and its "flagrant hostility" toward Palestinians and Muslims caused them to attack, according to reports.
