Rep. Anthony Weiner will host a town hall meeting Monday morning, Jan. 25, with non-profit institutions from Brooklyn and Queens to discuss the application process for Homeland Security grants that can be used to enhance security for local community institutions. The meeting will be held at the Kings Bay Y in Brooklyn.
The grants, which are made available through the $19 million Nonprofit Security Grant Program, will help protect community institutions, including churches and yeshivas, by providing up to $75,000 per institution for investing in enhanced security technologies, such as security cameras, metal detectors, and bulletproof windows.
“These grants help provide the tools necessary to protect New York’s cultural and community institutions, which are vital to the fabric of our city,” Weiner said in a statement.
Information about the application process is also available on the Web site of the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York, www.jcrcny.org. Last year, three quarters of the grants awarded in New York state went to Jewish organizations, according to the JCRC.
