JERUSALEM (JTA) ā€” Six terrorists failed in their attempt to blow up a pipeline carrying natural gas to Israel and Jordan from Egypt.

The timer on the explosives planted at a gas terminal in northern Sinai on Sunday did not go off and the bomb was defused, The Associated Press reported. The terrorists had jumped a guard in the early morning and planted the explosives before fleeing.

It was the second time that the pipeline has been attacked, reportedly by Bedouin Arabs, in the past two months. The gas line had been sabotaged Feb. 5 during the uprising in Egypt that ousted President Hosni Mubarak.

Gas flow was restored earlier this month, more than five weeks later.

Egypt supplies more than 40 percent of the gas that Israel needs to provide the country with electricity.
