On July 30, 1931, a Jewish congressman had the privilege of introducing a song written in honor of George Washington’s bicentennial birthday, observed Feb. 22 the following year:

Shortly after George M. Cohan had presented to President Hoover the first copy of "Father of the Land We Love," the song written for the George Washington bi-centennial, Congressman Sol Bloom, associate director of the bicentennial commission, sang Mr. Cohan’s song for the first time to an audience of newspapermen in the White House press room.
