(JTA) — Offensive lineman Mitchell Schwartz, a second-round draft pick of the Cleveland Browns, started in the team’s first preseason game.
The Browns defeated the Detroit Lions, 19-17, on Friday.
Schwartz, a tackle from the University of California, Berkeley, was selected 37th overall in April’s draft.
Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said at the time of his signing that Schwartz displayed solid technique that could quickly catapult him into a full-time player, according to the Cleveland Jewish News.
Schwartz’s older brother, Geoff, is in his fourth season in the NFL and is now playing with the Minnesota Vikings.
Earlier this month, the sale of the Browns to a group headed by truck-stop magnate Jimmy Haslam III ended 51 years of Jewish ownership of the National Football League team.
