JERUSALEM (JTA) — Florida state Sen. Nan Rich, a candidate for the state’s governorship in 2014, visited southern Israel.
Rich, a former president of the National Council for Jewish Women, received a security briefing Thursday in Kfar Aza, located near the border with Gaza, and met a family that received assistance in the wake of the recent conflict with Gaza from the Jewish Agency for Israel’s Fund for Victims of Terror. She also visited Sderot, where she met with representatives of the Jewish Agency’s Youth Futures Program for at-risk youth.
"It is hard to understand the trauma these families are going through until you see it with your own eyes," Rich said, referring to the families living in southern Israel who last month were bombarded with rocket fire from Gaza, escalating the more occasional bombings that had taken place previously.
She also visited the Eden Boarding School at Kibbutz Carmia, which is supported by the National Council for Jewish Women.
Rich sits on the boards of the Jewish Federation of Broward County and the Greater Miami Jewish Federation.
