(JTA) – A Frenchman who called a Jewish school in Toulouse to gloat over the murder of four Jews was sent to jail for three months.

The criminal court of Toulouse sentenced the 21-year-old man, who was not named, on Nov. 4 for making four telephone calls to the Ohr Hatorah Jewish School in Toulouse in March, just days after Mohammed Merah, a 23-year-old radical Islamist, murdered three children and a rabbi there.

The defendant “glorified the actions” of Merah in the calls, according to a report by L’Express.

A second defendant in the case was acquitted for lack of evidence, prosecutor Michel Valet told AFP.

French courts have punished several people for similar actions in recent months. A 22-year-old was handed a suspended prison sentence of 12 months in July for “incitement to hatred and violence” after an anti-Semitic rant on Facebook.

In eastern France, a young man was sentenced to a year in prison in September. He was prosecuted for having called the Ohr Hatorah school the previous week, falsely identifying himself as Merah’s cousin and threatening to kill more Jews at the school.
