JERUSALEM (JTA) — One rocket fired in a barrage from Gaza landed in Beersheba hours after Hamas uploaded a video warning residents to abandon the city.
“To the settlers of Beersheba, your leaders have killed our children, bombed our homes, and sentenced you to death. Run before it’s too late,” said the terrorist group’s video in Hebrew and Arabic.
Rockets continued to rain down on southern Israel on Sunday night and Monday. An Israeli military patrol vehicle also was fired on Monday near the Gaza border.
Israel responded Sunday night and Monday morning with attacks on concealed rocket launchers and nine of what its military called “terror sites.”
At least six members of Hamas were killed in the airstrikes, Palestinian sources reported. They are believed to have died when an arms smuggling tunnel collapsed as a result of the Israeli strikes. Palestinian civilians also are reported to have been injured in the attacks, according to the Palestinian Maan news agency.
More than 180 rockets fired from Gaza have landed in southern Israel in the past three weeks, according to the Israeli army.
